What is Cytomel?
Known as a thyroid drug and an anabolic steroid specifically for those with an underactive thyroid, Cytomel T3 provides a synthetic form of the hormone T3 produced by the thyroid, which is subsequently converted to T4 before it is actually used by the body. It increases your body’s need for energy, which is why it is highly inappropriate for those with an overactive thyroid, especially in the form of Grave’s disease. Some speculate that it may be inappropriate for some because of its steroid properties, and some also speculate that it provides only half the hormones needed to treat a thyroid problem, being that by the time your body processes it, it provides only T4 and not T3. The controversy is ongoing, and this prescription treatment is only to be used with great care and when prescribed by a doctor.
